I know this is an incredibly old thread, and I didn't read through it all, but that calico gun is the "ray gun" used by the aliens in "Dark Angel" (alt. title "I come in peace") starring Matthias Hues as Talec, the evil drug dealing alien and Dolph Lundgren as the hero cop.

Indeed the M56 Smartgun from Aliens, what a sexy sound it made when firing. The design of the gun was originally modeled off of the MG42. :3
